My first marriage I thought the same thing, but soon realized that when it came to take sides, my husband always sided with his mother over me. It's hard to make a marriage work when that is the case and it ultimately ended in divorce. That is not to say that family is bad. They can be a great support group if they realize that you aren't the enemy and a part of the family instead of an outsider moving in.
